Comedian Henry Cho has a routine about how his redneck inlaws taught him Southern manners allow you to say anything about anybody, no matter how disparaging, as long as you end the dialogue with “Bless his/her heart.” Predictably, Nancy Pelosi got it backwards:
“God bless him, bless his heart, president of the United States—a total failure, losing all credibility with the American people on the economy, on the war, on energy, you name the subject,” Pelosi told CNN‘s Wolf Blitzer in an exclusive interview.
Even doubling up with an extra “God bless” doesn’t make it right. It’s still bad manners unless “bless his heart” comes at the end of the rant.
