Good FFB News, Bad FFB News

My Bruinskins fantasy team has had a busy day. Good news: Steven Jackson signed, meaning my RB-1 will (fingers crossed) be playing Week 1. Bad news: Kevin Curtis is out indefinitely after hernia surgery. I planned on using Curtis as my top backup WR and even starting him some weeks at the flex R/W position. In the event, however, I waived Curtis and signed David Patten. Patten and Bryant Johnson can compete to be my WR-3. Given that this is not a PPR league, however, neither seems likely to displace Julius Jones at the flex spot. I’m projecting Jones to give me around 10 PPG, Johnson 7 or 8, and Patten 5 or 6. In a PPR league, I might think about Edwards at flex, depending on the opponent and, of course, assuming SF gets its QB situation straightened out.

So here’s the current roster:

POS—PLAYER
QB—D. Brees (NO - QB)
RB—S. Jackson (StL - RB)
RB—M. Jones-Drew (Jac - RB)
WR—A. Johnson (Hou - WR)
WR—N. Burleson (Sea - WR)
TE—C. Cooley (Was - TE)
R/W—J. Jones (Sea - RB)
PK—S. Graham (Cin - PK)
DST—San Diego (SD - DST)
BN—J. Campbell (Was - QB)
BN—J. Shockey (NO - TE)
BN—P. Rivers (SD - QB)
BN—P. Thomas (NO - RB)
BN—D. Patten (NO - WR)
BN—B. Johnson (SF - WR)

Other than having too many Saints on the roster, I’m feeling really good about that lineup at the moment. Plus, I still think Rivers and Campbell give me great trade bait for when the QBs start going down, so there’s a good chance for further improvement (I’d really like to upgrade my WR-2, for example). Thoughts?

No handcuff on either your RB1 or RB2?  Were their backups already unavailable by the time you drafted RB4?

Sisyphus: I’m not a big fan of handcuffing, although it has its place.

Check and see if Bobby Engram is available. He’s not a short term solution, but he should be ready to play by the 3rd or 4th game.

Also maybe check for lesser known RB’s like Chris Perry (Cinci) or Maurice Morris (Seatle).

I couldn’t agree with you more about handcuffing.

Why drop Curtis at all?  A number of commentators are speculating that he will return in Week 3 or 4.  If he does, you get a stronger bench player than Patten.  If you wait a few weeks and the prognosis for Curtis worsens, you can always pick up and end of the bench player of Patten’s value.
