So who do we want to answer the phone? ... We don’t want populist policies (e.g., anti-trade) that get votes in the short run but are likely to lead to economic disaster (in other words, we’d rather that phone didn’t ring in the first place).  And we don’t want a president whose economically naive populist policies will frame his or her response to whatever disasters occur.

For a guy who keeps saying he’s not going to become a political blogger, Larry does a pretty good job of political blogging.

Sorry, but the voters in places like Michigan and Ohio, who have been “thrown under the trade bus,” are quite likely to embrace a protectionist message.

When you have lost your job, your health insurance and your home there isn’t a lot to lose.

And no, buying cheap Chinese stuff at Wal-mart does not compensate.
