John Edwards: Integrity?

John Edwards has finally admitted that he repeatedly lied about having an extramarital affair. Given how he put his wife Elizabeth out front during his campaigns and tried to make political hay out of her illness and their supposed family values, both the affair and the lies demonstrate a marked lack of integrity. Of course, those of us who watched him build his millions by using junk science to shake down doctors have always thought Edwards needed some integrity lessons.

Update: In his statement, Edwards claims he finally realized that “being 99% honest is no longer enough.” I’m sorry, but being mostly honest is kind of like being a little bit pregnant, which is a particularly apt analogy in this case. You either are or you aren’t.

I guess this means that his shot at AG is gone, or is it?

I like the focus on integrity for integrity’s sake.

Too many are only talking about private life vs. public.

And in those views, many seem to miss the point that Edwards was doing just that; using his wife as a moral tool in his campaign chest, all the while he was cheating on her.

His arrogance is breathtaking, even for a politician.

A moment of human weakness (followed by lying) is bad but forgivible.

This (if true) is just craven.  http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/08/the-lies-of-joh.html

It also says what a creep Kerry is.

I don’t believe John Edwards even now. I do not think he is telling the truth about why he was with this woman and baby in the middle of the night. I also believe that he may, indeed, be the father of this child.
