McCain on Judges

I’ve got a column at Pajamas Media:

Stephen Bainbridge believes John McCain will appoint conservative justices to the Supreme Court if elected. He pledged to do so at CPAC last week, and presidents are easier to pressure these days. Remember Harriet Miers?

I’m not sure why anyone is concerned about what McCain would do as president, since it is clear that he will never be president.  Republicans in three states voted this weekend, with these results:

KANSAS:  Huckabee 60%, McCain 24%
LOUISIANA:  Huckabee 43%, McCain 42%
WASHINGTON:  McCain 26%, Huckabee 24%

In Washington, Paul, Romney and Uncommitted were all above 13%.  Yes, the people of Washington knew that Romney had dropped out.

Huge numbers of Republicans across the nation would rather vote for Mickey Mouse than McCain.  President Bush himself had to be prodded to endorse him, and did so only tepidly.

Some commentators have said that McCain’s early wrapup of his party nomination would be a major advantage in the national election, since it would enable him to shore up his fundraising and organizing while Clinton and Obama are still shredding eachother.  It appears, however, that grassroots Republicans, in addition to Dobson and Limbaugh, are determined not to let that happen.
