Medved Calls out Hewitt

Michael spanks Hugh:

On the day of the New Hampshire Primary, I spent a good deal of time on the radio with my friend and Townhall colleague Hugh Hewitt, debating issues and candidates both on his show and my own.

Hugh’s a great guy, and one of the best political commentators in the country, but he recycled an old and despicable lie in the course of our conversation. This distortion of the truth is unworthy of such a decent and fair-minded observer and Hugh owes an apology – not to me, but to Senator John McCain.

During the course of our conversation, I deplored the slimy negative ads aired by his candidate, Mitt Romney – in particular a TV commercial where the narrator says that John McCain “voted to allow illegals to collect Social Security.”

I condemned the ad as an outright lie, but Hugh defended it as an arguable, reasonable description of McCain’s position.

Let’s settle the issue, Hugh, and move ahead to that apology—because the record clearly shows that I was right and you were wrong. There’s nothing defensible about Romney’s smear.

Medved then goes through the details before concluding:

Romney, who’s now desperate to pull out a last chance victory in Michigan, won’t apologize. But Hugh Hewitt, a fair-minded Republican leader of impeccable integrity, should offer that apology now.

You gotta love it. But I’d advise Medved not to hold his breath. After all. Hugh’s never apologized for the stuff he said back during the Harriet Miers fight.

McCain doesn’t want to let illegal immigrants collect Social Security. He merely wants to convert all illegal immigrants into legal immigrants and *then* let them collect Social Security. The distinction is trivial as a practical matter.

The truth is damning enough, so I wonder why Romney felt compelled to grind it down into a lie. This guy is a monogamous, Republican Bill Clinton.

I think Romeny should call McC out on the Keating Five scandal.  McC’s beloved illegals have a word for people like McC: sinverguenza.

Aside from his inert, so-so (complete lack of leadreship) opposition to abortion and the Iraq War (which soem self-proclaimed conservatives now oppose), McC is a liberal equivalent to Hitlery and Hussein B. Osama.  It’s spelled R-I-N-O.  That’s why the MSM loved him in 2000, and still does.

I would vote RTL instead of the thief.

Mitt Romney is a weak canidate who will lose to the Democrats.  Don’t perfect be the enemy of good.

Mitt loses in Pennsylvania to Hillary and Obama, but McCain wins there.  Putting the Keystone State in play for the GOP is key to a victory. http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/pennsylvania/pennsylvania_2008_presidential_election

Mitt ties Hillary in Virgina.  Hmmmm.  Not a state the GOP can afford to lose.  http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/virginia/virginia_2008_presidential_election

McCain beats Hillary in Maryland.  Romney loses to Hillary there.  http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/maryland/maryland_2008_presidential_election

Mitt ties Hillary in Alabama.  ALABAMA!  Not exactly a state the GOP should be risking.

Thanks but no thanks.  I will take McCain over Hillary and Obama.  Because them the choices right now.  I would love to see Fred catch fire.  But Mitt Romney is a loser and will drag the GOP down with him.
