Neo-Puritans in France

The neo-Puritans are winning even in France:

France bans smoking in cafes, hotels and clubs on Jan. 1, stamping out the habit popularized by Jean- Paul Sartre puffing Gauloises in hazy brasseries.

Sigh.

One north suburb of Chicago has topped-up the new Illinois law by banning smoking in virtually all outdoor locations, businesses, and public places. The ordinance will place fines of up to $750 for smoking in or near beaches, driving ranges, and even most tobacco shops.
