No. 2!

Dr Z bumps the Washington Redskins up to #2:

Ta daaaa, and up and over we go, over the unbeaten Titans, who won Sunday, into the silver medal spot. They beat a finesse team, the Cowboys, and they out-toughed the hardnosed Eagles. Jim Zorn’s got them flying around like maniacs...and don’t forget, he’s doing it with assistants who already were in place when he got the job.

And now we’ve got the Rams, Browns, and Lions. Heh, heh, heh.

Don’t worry Dr. Z, the Cowboys will be coming for revenge in Washington later this season....

And they deserve the slot (as much as it pains me to say so).

Of course, I am a fan of an NFC East team that seemed to be in the catbird seat at this point in the season last year only to have another NFC East team take them out in the playoffs…

The Secret

Seriously, I don’t even know how to handle all this. I have been a diehard Skins fans since my childhood during the Gibbs glory days.

I have been a believer in Campbell and a hopeful optimist concerning Zorn from the get go, and I am still shocked by the respect we are getting. Its so weird. I am rubbing my eyes. Since when do they get respect? What universe have we stumbled into?

Of course, being a fan doesn’t mean that I am not a realist. I have been with this team for years now and I think I have a feel for them. A lady at work was trying to talk me down the other day fearing my eventual heartbreak. I told her that I was enjoying the moment and the surprise of the unexpected. On the other hand, what I have come to expect is disappointment and that hasn’t gone away. Now I don’t want to hex the Skins with the loser’s gallery now coming their way, but it wouldnt surprise me to see at least one trap game in there. If so, I believe they would recover and still do well and even possibly make the playoffs, but it would be wholly in the character of this my beloved franchise to lay at least one rotten egg on their way to the top.

I just hope that this time I am wrong. It would be nice if this keeps on going.

It’s easy to be wise after the fact, but the sports page in the local paper Sunday morning had a statistic that convinced me that the Redskins were overrated and the Rams had a chance.  In their first five games, the Redskins had no turnovers and their wins were by a touchdown or less.  No team will go through a season with no turnovers and the Redskins’ three on Sunday were the difference in the game.
