Why I Still Like Fred

Fred Thompson hasn’t exactly set the world on fire as a candidate, yet as Ed Morrissey points out Thompson “just released the best Christmas ad in this cycle, one in which no one will find floating crosses, holiday fruitcake, downer lighting, and especially tone-deaf “gifts” of expanded entitlements under the Christmas tree.”

I just wish it seemed like his heart was as in it as this ad makes it seem.

I’m beginning to wonder whether the problem isn’t with Fred’s heart, but with the other candidates desperation to win the White House.

Compared to their breakneck pace, Fred seems slow and lackluster, but could he simply have a healthier view of the office and campaigning?

All the other Republicans seem so desperate to win the nomination that they’ll say anything or stoop to great depths and indignities (show of hands?) to gain a few votes ... wasn’t this once considered Clintonian?

Maybe it’s just my internal spin-machine working overtime.

Indeed. Unless you are a political junkie, a year’s worth of campaigning before the first caucus/primary would cause most voters to burn-out or overload. Fred’s sticking to a traditional campaign strategy may not work in the end, but I salute him for not getting caught up in this new hyper-campaigning mode.
