McCain and Romney neck and neck in Florida, with Rudy trailing badly and Huckabee out of cash.

Steve—Like you, I supported Fred Thompson. Like you, I abhor McCain-Feingold. Like you, I’m pro-life. (Like you, I like Ridge . . . .) But, I have to admit, the thought of McCain as the nominee—that is, the thought of the only Republican with any hope of preventing the Democratic nominee from selecting judges for the next (at least) four years as the nominee—does not, at all, make we want to shoot myself. It makes me kinda happy, in a “yes, it’s an imperfect world, but let’s make the best it” sort of way. Why so gloomy? We know (it seems) that the GOP nominee will not be Huckabee or Giuliani. He might well be someone without nativist anti-immigrant baggage. This is *good* news. Isn’t it?
After the race to the populist bottom at the last Democrat debate, are you sure you would really sit out the next election if McCain got the nod?
"Nativist anti-immigrant baggage.”
Now we’re nativists if we think our laws should be obeyed and people should not cut in line.
Nice.
If McCain wins the nomination, McCain ‘08 will make us remember Dole ‘96 fondly. . . .
