As expected, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today endorsed Arizona Senator John McCain for the GOP presidential nomination. In doing so, Schwarzenegger opines that:
Personally, I doubt whether Schwarzenegger’s endorsement will matter very much. The GOP activists who get out to vote in primaries—and remember this is a closed primary in which only registered Republicans can vote—have never been very fond of Governor Schwarzenegger. And, in recent years, Schwarzenegger has basically abandoned the California Republican Party to govern as a quasi-Independent with much of his support coming from Democrats. As such, I doubt whether his endorsement will sway many voters in next Tuesday’s primary.
