To the animals we associate with, we must seem immortal.  We’re here when they first see the light of day, and we’re here when that light fades.

I often wonder who benefits most from our association with them.  We give them rather little, all things considered.  But then, their needs aren’t great.  They give us rather a lot, considering what little they have to give.  Loyalty, mostly, and a delight in the simpler things - chasing sticks, balls, cars,..., a happy greeting when we come back after a long day.
