Yuckabee

CNN, ABC News and Fox News have both called the Iowa GOP caucus for Mike Huckabee. It looks like Fred Thompson will finish third, 8-10 points behind second placer Mitt Romney. Will Thompson drop out in light of this poor finish or not?

Meanwhile, NRO’s Jim Geraghty reports:

So, while we’ve been focused on Iowa, over in New Hampshire the last six polls have McCain and Romney tied, tied, McCain by 6, McCain by 6, McCain by 9, McCain by 4. (Some of those are daily tracking polls.)

None of those polls have him any lower than 29 percent. Beyond Romney, nobody else is consistently in double digits.

Romney had better come out of Iowa with momentum, because otherwise he’s in trouble.

The latest Drudge numbers have the Iowa count at: Huckabee 35; Romney 24; Thompson 14; McCain 12. Losing by 11 points doesn’t likely to give Mitt much momentum. What happens if Huck rides a free media binge out of Iowa into first or second in NH, dropping Romney past McCain into third or even past Giuliani into fourth?

Hey, what did you think of Huckabee quoting G.K. “Chesterson”?

Whatever you think of Romney, Huckabee’s Mormon-baiting is beyond the pale. Not to mention his Carteresque policy preferences.

I will vote for my pet dog before I vote for the Huckster.

I like Huck, and his joke in his victory speech about being invited into people’s houses—and even getting some of them to vote for him! is warm and real.

Mormon-baiting is bad; Huck is weak when negative against anybody.  But Romney is likely going to be gone.  Too white (bread), plastic, Ken-doll, rich, flip-flop, “perfect” ... elitist.

Even if I agree most with his policies!
